We Welcome All Dental Insurance
At Sweeny Family Dental, we welcome dental insurance, because we believe that everyone should have access to high-quality dental care that doesn’t break the bank. When you bring your policy to us, our team will make sure you know exactly what is and isn’t covered so there are never any unpleasant surprises at checkout. We’ll even handle the claims for you so we can make sure you’re maximizing your benefits at every visit. Before you come to see us, you can learn a little more about how our dental office works with insurance below.
Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
Like with medical insurance, with dental insurance, you pay a premium every month to your provider, and in exchange, you receive benefits that help you save on your family’s dental care.
However, where they differ is that dental insurance is primarily focused on prevention. Medical insurance is tailored to helping people with urgent problems, while dental insurance is geared more towards stopping problems from occurring in the first place.
With this in mind, an easy way to get the most out of your plan is to simply attend your recommended two checkups and cleanings every year, which will likely be mostly or completely covered. Plus, these services will also lower your chances of needing more expensive treatments in the future.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
Most dental insurance benefits break down like this:
- Preventive care (checkups, cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, X-rays, etc.) are covered 100%.
- Restorative care , such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and fillings are covered 50-75%.
- Cosmetic care like porcelain veneers and teeth whitening are normally NOT covered.
- Orthodontic care can sometimes be covered, but with certain plans, benefits only apply to patients under 18.
This is just a general breakdown, and benefits can differ quite a bit from plan to plan. We can help you figure out how your specific policy works before you begin any treatment with us.
Our In-Network PPO Dental Insurance Providers
Our dental office currently accepts and is in-network with plans from the following providers:
- MetLife
- Ameritas (Includes Reliant Standard & Principle Life)
- BlueCross BlueShield
- Dearborn National (BCBS)
- Aetna
- Guardian
- Delta Dental
- UnitedHealthcare
- Sun Life Financial
Being “in-network” simply means that we have a contract with each provider to charge pre-set rates for our services, which are usually less than our standard fees. On the other hand, an out-of-network dental office can basically charge your insurance company whatever they want, and any money not covered by your plan will be your responsibility. In short, by visiting an in-network dental office, you’ll be able to save much more on your care.
